Niceville's Choruses
Niceville High School
offers it's students a
variety of choral
ensembles.
Freshmen are
assigned to either The
Camerata, the men's
chorus, or Kantorai,
the freshmen
women's chorus.
Bel Canto is the
destination for
sophomore girls but is
also home to many
junior and senior girls.
  Sophomore girls who
have shown a year's
worth of hard work as
freshmen are given
the opportunity to
audition for the Select
Women, Niceville's
highest level women's
chorus.  Girls chosen
for the Select Women
must be good
musicians and
vocalist who are
eager to learn very
advanced women's
choral literature.
Sophomore boys
continue to grow
physically and vocally
in The Camerata.
However, a small
group of sophomore
boys and girls have
the opportunity  to add
one of the best high
school choirs in
Florida, the Niceville
Singers, to their
schedules.
The Niceville Singers
is a mixed chorus of
about 45 voices,
mostly juniors and
seniors, who have an
extra period in their
schedule to learn and
perform some of the
most exciting choral
literature available.
Niceville's most select
ensemble is Opus
One, a group with
extremely high
standards and
expectations of its
members.
Opus One meets
during 5th each day
and has between 15
and 20 members in
any given school year.
Only juniors and
seniors may sing in
Opus One whose
members also sing as
members of the
Niceville Singers.
The choirs and ensembles at Niceville have consistently earned Superior ratings at district,
state and national festivals.
For the past sixteen years, every chorus from Niceville has earned a Superior rating at the
District 1 Music Performance Assessment including the six choirs that were adjudicated
Superior in February 2007.
The Niceville choruses have also earned consistent Superior ratings at the State MPA and,
after a five year absence where the groups performed at independently sponsored state and
regional choral events, the Niceville Singers and Opus One returned to the 2007 Florida Vocal
Association's State MPA where they earned straight Superior marks.
Under the direction of conductor Michael Dye and assistant Leah Brown, the Niceville
Singers have performed for the state conference of the American Choral Directors
Association (2000), the Linz International Choral Festival in the Bruchnerhaus in Linz, Austria
while on their Central European Tour (2002), at the International Church Music Festival in
Coventry, England while touring in Great Britain (2004) and for the All-Chinese Choral
Directors Association in Beijing at their national convention while on tour in the People's
Republic of China (2006).  Mr. Dye is currently finalizing plans and selecting the Singers for a
tour of northern Italy in the summer of 2008.
Since 1990 the Niceville choruses have toured to Atlanta, Georgia  and Gatlinburg,
Tennessee on two occasions, to the Bluebonnet Choral Festival in San Antonio, Texas and to
Tampa and Orlando on numerous occasions.  The choirs have won dozens of "First Place", l
"Best of Class" and "Sweepstakes" trophies over the years.
Hundreds of members of the Niceville choruses have sung in the Okaloosa County Honor
Chorus during the past three decades.
For the past 17 years the choruses from  Niceville have produced scores of all-state chorus
members for the Florida Vocal Association's all-state choruses at the Florida Music Educators
State Conference including thirty-one singers (five Reading Chorus members) in 2006 and
twenty-five singers (seven Reading Chorus members) in 2007.
